Lately, I’ve been feeling God trying to bring me closer to him through silence. Being quiet is somewhat difficult for me because my mind is always full and busy. When I was a little younger than I am now, I used to say things before thinking. Sometimes that would get me in trouble, but I have found being quiet is so peaceful. A quiet mind calls for a calm soul. When your soul is calm you are able to fall deep into communion with Jesus and thus far it has been quite delightful. The practice of being quiet has also been much for when saying the Rosary. I don't know about you but when I used to pray, I would forget where I was because my mind would go off and get distracted. That's one of the reasons why I love adoration so much. Personal time with Jesus is my happy place. St. Therese once said while she was in a spiritual dryness she would say Our Father’s and Hail Mary’s slowly. I have been doing this practice and it helps with my focus before I start prayer. One thought at a time slips away and then I can now sit in peace. First thing in the morning, I start out with the Litany of the Hours, then I go into study time. I like to study the teachings of the Saints. I spend around thirty minutes studying before I start my day. All my life, if I didn’t like it I didn’t do it or if I liked it too much I didn’t get rid of it. Lately I have been working very hard on letting go of my earthly attachments. St. John of the Cross has teachings on how to let go and be in complete communion with him. He believed that letting go of the physical is an interior purification rather than just an external act. He believed that having physical attachment to something brings you farther away from communion with God. After learning thus far what St. John has taught me, I started to think about my own life. Was I attached to too many things? The answer was YES! Aren't we all attached to something we shouldn’t be. Maybe it's a purse, pair of your favorite shoes, that dress you can't seem to throw away. One way that helps me not to be attached is judging everything against my love for Jesus. Which helps a lot because then there is nothing I will be attached to.
You may think this might be impossible, but once you realize that nothing matters above the love that Jesus has for you, you really can't start living life. Once you start living your life for him you no longer live for your wants and needs but truly for his.
