St. Faustina

St. Faustina
Apostle of Divine Mercy

Sister Faustina was born on August 25, 1905, in Glogowiec Poland to a poor and religious family. She was the 3rd born of 10 children. Baptized with the name Helena in the Swinice Warchie Parish Church, she stood out because of her love for prayer. She also loved obedience, work and she was very sensitive to the poor community. When she was seven, she had already felt the first of many pulls towards religious life. Helena made her first Holy Communion when she was nine. She went on to study at school for three semesters before finishing. When she finished school, she wanted to finally enter the convent, but when approaching her parents with the idea, they were not pleased and denied her from entering. At the age of 16, Helena wanted to leave home and make a living for the family. She went on to work as a housekeeper in three different places.
While Helena never lost her desire for religious life, she knew at the age of 16 it wasn’t the right time to enter. On August 1, 1925, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and took the name SR. Maria Faustina of the Most Blessed Sacrament. She lived there for thirteen years in many convents where she worked as a cook, gardener, and a porter.
By reading her Diary you dive deeper into her mystic life with Jesus. The book takes you through a time of her life where was probably vulnerable to share everything she did in her diary, I know I’m not always in the mood to share my life with Jesus. Being a very private person, I think some things are most special if you keep them to between you and Jesus. But Faustina knew that Jesus was telling her to write all this down for a bigger purpose than just her feelings. Jesus knows us all and every hair on our head. I was reminded of that last time I was at Mass. I think it is always a good reminder to everyone, whatever you are feeling God knows, you may want to think you are alone, but Our God is Love and Mercy himself.
